Challenge

Wastewater clarifiers in Hannibal and Nixa, Missouri were badly deteriorated from long-term corrosion, creating serious operational and compliance risks. Both cities needed a durable, cost-effective rehabilitation solution to avoid full reconstruction.

Results

MIC restored both clarifiers using the OBIC Armor Multi-Layer System, completing the work in just 12 days and covering 16,700 sq ft in Nixa. The upgrades provide long-term corrosion resistance, extended service life, and reduced maintenance costs.

About MIC

Midwest Infrastructure Coatings (MIC) is an OBIC-certified installer specializing in the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure with advanced protective coatings. MIC delivers reliable solutions for extending the lifespan of wastewater systems.

The Challenge

Municipalities in Hannibal and Nixa, Missouri, faced severe deterioration of their wastewater clarifiers due to decades of exposure to hydrogen sulfide and operational stresses. The critical infrastructure, vital for regulatory compliance and community health, had suffered extensive corrosion and structural weakening, threatening system reliability and escalating maintenance costs. Both cities needed a solution that would deliver comprehensive corrosion protection, restore structural integrity, and minimize downtime without incurring the costs and disruptions of full replacement.

The Solution

After evaluating their options and the risks associated with full reconstruction, both municipalities selected Midwest Infrastructure Coatings (MIC), an OBIC-certified installer. MIC recommended the OBIC Armor Multi-Layer System which combines OBIC 1000 polyurea and OBIC 1306 structural foam known for its proven ability to seal leaks, stabilize aging concrete, and deliver long-term corrosion protection. The system was installed across 7,000 sq ft of clarifier surface in Hannibal and a record-setting 16,700 sq ft in Nixa. MIC’s precise planning and adherence to strict safety standards ensured the work stayed on schedule and met all quality requirements.

The Results

The use of the OBIC Armor Multi-Layer System resulted in the successful rehabilitation of both clarifiers, extending their operational lifespan and dramatically improving resistance to corrosion and future structural degradation. The projects were executed in just 12 days, minimizing service interruptions and reducing overall lifecycle costs. The Nixa project set an OBIC record for the largest exterior clarifier area coated to date. The municipalities now benefit from robust, long-term protection for their wastewater infrastructure, reduced maintenance demands, and enhanced compliance with industry regulations demonstrating the critical value of advanced rehabilitation technologies in safeguarding public assets.
